I like the keeping of the towns relatively far apart, in the D&D realms you normally work with, there weren't spreading sprawling masses of buildings like there are today. And I like the uncharted areas, sounds ominous. If they're uncharted, would the points of interest most likely be just around the edges, not inside (as it's unknown?) And I suggest concentrating some of the 'ruins' across a less explored section somewhere, implying a long dead civilization that has maybe relocated?
I get the impression that with all the ruins, the current civilization is recovering or new in comparison...like building over Atlantis or something. Sweet.
